The better way to sell online

How to sell your products, now

Struggling to make sales and looking for ways to create irresistible offers? Look no further. Here are four ways to be relevant, boost sales and create offers customers can’t refuse.

Imagine you set up a balloon stand right beside a funeral home. Sure, a few people might like it. But chances are most people would view you as a bit strange, or label you as disrespectful or tacky.

Imagine instead that you set up a flower store. For those visiting loved ones, a handful of flowers could be exactly what they’re looking for.

A lot of making sales is about relevance. About making the right offer at the right time to the right person at the right place.

Here are four tricks you can use to be relevant, boost sales and create offers customers can't refuse.

1. Have a look around

Take a breath, take your head out of your business schemes and have a glance about. What's in season? What are people looking for right now? What's relevant?

You might think you have the best deals in the world, but it's worth double checking! To have a successful offer, you need something people want right now.

When you’re online, that can be a tricky thing to do.

But think outside the square. . If you sell scarves and you know winter is coming up, why not offer half price umbrellas with every scarf?

You could push the sale of scarves, and make extra profit by selling discounted umbrellas.

2. Make it easy to buy

A key part of any successful offer is making its benefits super easy to understand.

Show your customers how they could use what you’re offering, and why it would benefit them.

If you did decide to sell umbrellas, for example, you could put a bad weather forecast beside them.

If you were selling music, you could place it into easy to understand playlists.

Show customers how they could use your product, and make it easy to try out a demo version.

3. Make discounts super obvious

Make sure that when something’s on sale, it can be seen.

Make it obvious why purchasing something is a win for your customer: let them know exactly how much they are saving.

Using a ShopFactory store, you can easily enable discounted prices or send discount vouchers to your customers in an email campaign. Find out how here.

4. Make them want it now

Telling someone you’ve got a sweet deal might not be enough to sell it to them. I can't count the number of times I've seen something I'd like and thought, 'oh, I'll grab it another time', only to forget it.

You must convince customers to buy right now. An effective way to do this is by setting a time frame for your sale. Anything from two to four weeks can work but even 24 hours flash sales can hook customers.

If you target customers in a local area, you could send out an email on a sunny day with limited time sunscreen sales. Keep an eye on context; you might have the perfect product, but you could be selling it at the wrong time.

A discount voucher which only works for the first 20 customers or which expires within 48 hours could just be the way to go and can easily be set up with ShopFactory.

Keep an eye on context; you might have the perfect product, but you could be selling it at the wrong time.

Of course, sometimes great offers are chance events. But by keeping an eye on the four things I’ve outlined above you should see an increase in sales. If you’re stuck for inspiration, you can check out our article on idea generating here.
